Voice messages can have up to a day's delay. Text messages are usually immediate, but may have several hours delay. This is for calls IN TOWN.
I think Tello piggybacks on internet services. On vacations, I usually have service in metropolitan areas. I cannot count on services on the road or in small towns. This has definitely changed our normal "let's see where this road takes us" and "oh, this looks INTERESTING; let's stop and check it out modes" for much more ridged pre-planning of trips.
In spite of these problems, you can't beat the price.

Absolutely perfect for what I need!
I left Verizon for Tello and I could not be MORE ecstatic. The flexibility of the plans ensures that I'm paying for exactly what I need, and not a lot of other nonsense. At Verizon I was paying $20 a month as a line access fee, in addition to the charges for service - at Tello, my total monthly bill is less than that one, single fee! I honestly could not be more chuffed. And just in case I ever go over my plan's minutes or data, Tello's got my back by letting me maintain a pay-as-you-go balance. It was SO easy to move my phone over from Verizon to Tello, AND I was able to port my old number (no need to update your contact information, mom and dad!). I had a couple of issues sending text messages on the first couple of days, but Tello's customer service was rapid and on it, and figured that out for me like the professionals they are. My only complaint is that reception is a bit patchy at work, but that's not Tello's fault. I haven't run into any coverage issues anywhere else! I tell all of my friends about Tello, this is the way ALL mobile carriers in the US should operate!

Tello customer service is wonderful. When you call them there is not a long wait before speaking with a rep and you are not transferred to several different people. They are always very knowledgeable and will go out of their way to make sure you get the help/answers you need.
