How do I change the phone number registered for texting with the RCS feature?
If you are having issues registering a ported phone number or correcting the phone number registered for this option on your phone, please check the following settings:
✅ Pro-Tip
RCS only works between Android/iPhone users who both have the feature enabled. If you're texting someone with a phone without RCS, the message will automatically send as a standard SMS/MMS.
Next Steps
- Option 1: Refresh RCS Settings
This is the most common fix to get your new number recognized by the network.- Open your Messages app (ensure it is the default app, not a third-party one).
- Tap your Profile Picture or the three-dot menu and go to Message Settings.
- Find RCS Chats (or "Chat Features") and turn it OFF.
- Power cycle (turn off and then back on) your phone.
- Go back to the same menu and turn RCS Chats back ON.
- Wait about 15 minutes for the system to verify your new number.
- Option 2: Update Your Google Account
If the wrong number is still stuck, you may need to clear it from your Google profile.- Open your phone Settings and tap on Google.
- Tap Manage your Google Account.
- Go to the Personal Info tab and scroll down to Contact Info.
- Tap on your phone number and remove the incorrect one.
- Restart your device and check your RCS settings again.
✅ Pro-Tip
RCS only works between Android/iPhone users who both have the feature enabled. If you're texting someone with a phone without RCS, the message will automatically send as a standard SMS/MMS.
Next Steps
- Give the system a full 15 minutes to verify the number after you toggle RCS back on.
- If your number still shows as "Setting up" or "Disconnected" after following these steps, contact our support team for more help.
